Income Tax Slabs – New Tax Regime (FY 2025–26)

Taxable Income Range (₹) Tax Rate Tax on Maximum Amount in Slab
0 – 4,00,000 0% ₹0
4,00,001 – 8,00,000 5% ₹20,000
8,00,001 – 12,00,000 10% ₹40,000
12,00,001 – 16,00,000 15% ₹60,000
16,00,001 – 20,00,000 20% ₹80,000
20,00,001 – 24,00,000 25% ₹1,00,000
Above 24,00,000 30% As per income

Key points about new tax slabs:

  • In new tax slabs basic exemption limits rise from ₹3 lakh to ₹4 lakh.
  • There is no tax up to 12 lakhs of annual income under Section 87A (rebate of 60000).
  • Salaried employee will get an 75,000-standard deduction.

Let’s understand with an example

Suppose your total taxable income is ₹12,00,000:

Tax calculation:

  • 0 – 4L → Nil
  • 4L – 8L → 5% of ₹4L = ₹20,000
  • 8L – 12L → 10% of ₹4L = ₹40,000
  • Total = ₹60,000

Then, rebate under Section 87A = ₹60,000

Net tax = ₹0

So, the tax is not zero because slabs are zero — it’s zero because of rebate.
